Principal’s Message

Hello Current and Prospective Parkside Montessori Families,

My name is Nima Tahai and I am the Parkside Montesosri Principal. I am thrilled that you are visiting our school website and hope you enjoy finding out more about our school, staff, students, families and community!

A little bit about me…

I grew up in San Mateo and attended the San Mateo-Foster City school district as a child (Laurel Elementary, Abbott Middle School and Hillsdale High School). I live a mile from the school and I have a four year old son and two year old daughter whom I plan to enroll in Parkside Montessori one day soon.

Next year I will go into my 9th year of being a principal- and I love my job! I became Parkside Montessori’s principal in 2019 and what I love most about our school is our dedicated staff and active parent community. We have a unique opportunity to develop a strong program that supports the development of our children through Montessori education while preparing them to meet or exceed academic and social standards.

A little bit about our program...

Parkside’s Montessori program is over 35 years old and we are expanding to provide the gift of Montessori to a greater number of students. We are the fastest growing public Montessori program in the Bay Area and will be expanding to include grades 6th-8th over the next few years.

On our campus we have a Montessori Pre-K program for students aged 3 and 4. Our Primary classrooms support TK and Kindergarten aged students, our Lower Elementary serves 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders in the same classroom, and our Upper Elementary is expanding to serve 4th, 5th and 6th graders in the same class.

We believe that Montessori education is a gift that can unlock a child’s potential, independence and drive to excel academically. Our first commitment at Parkside is to implement the Montessori program with fidelity. As a public school we also supplement our program to meet district and state public school standards.

Parkside Montessori has a vibrant community made up of families from around San Mateo and Foster City. Our wonderful parent and family community support our school, our students and our teachers with their volunteer time, community involvement, financial support and collaboration to help Parkside Montessori continue to grow and thrive.

Is Montessori right for your child?

Yes. For many years Montessori programs have only been available to families that could afford a private school option. At Parkside Montessori we believe in Montessori for All. Dr. Montessori explored education through the lens of a scientist and her study of child development led to the philosophy that we embrace today at Parkside Montessori. Our goal is to provide our students with an educational experience that values the whole child, and nurtures each child’s natural desire for knowledge, understanding and respect. Our dedicated Montessori teachers and staff are committed to this goal and to helping our students develop an ongoing enthusiasm for learning.

Learning more about our program

You can get to know our program and Montessori by reviewing this slide deck and brochure. This enrollment season Parkside Montessori will host four virtual engagements for prospective parents. Learn more and RSVP to one here. Parkside is a magnet program which means that interested families must first enroll in their neighborhood school and then request a transfer through the district. Details about the transfer process can be found on this district website.

Thank you for taking the time to explore if our unique public school environment is right for your child. Our team knows that this is a stressful time for prospective parents. We are here to help you through the enrollment process. I look forward to connecting more with you and your child as you take the time to learn about our program.

Go Parkside Tigers!

All my best,

Principal Tahai

“We discovered that education is not something which the teacher does, but that it is a natural process which develops spontaneously in the human being.” Dr. Maria Montessori
